STYLES YOU WILL FIND USEFUL IN LATIN CLUBS AS WELL AS AT WEDDINGS & in TRADITIONAL BALLROOM VENUES
Rumba is done to slow often romantic 4/4 tempo songs. This is the second most common style of dance taught for a wedding “first dance”. There are two sub-sets of Rumba, including international style and American style. Your instructor will help you pick which style will be easiest to do with your music or desired venue.
Cha Cha is popular in both social dance clubs and in cmopetition. It is useful for medium tempo songs with a strong beat, like “Let’s Get Loud” by Jennifer Lopez or “Smooth” by Santana.
SALSA & MAMBO
Salsa is the most popular Latin club social dance. There are many venues in the Portland area where dancers can go and dance only salsa, all night long. Mambo is very similar to salsa, and is often called “New York Salsa.” Your instructor will help guide you to which style will be most useful for you.
Samba is an upbeat Latin dance useful for thumping 4/4 time music, like Shakira’s “Whenever Wherever” or Rihanna’s “Pon De Replay.”
There are many other styles and sub-set styles of social and competitive Latin dance. Your instructor will help guide you to which style will be most useful for you.
